Describe your production practices.
Alta Vista Farm is steadfastly committed to being responsible stewards of the water, soil, and wildlife in our region. We strive to do this by managing our farm as part of the greater community and ecosystem we inhabit, providing food and habitat for beneficial insects, pollinators, and wildlife, managing soil and nutrients to minimize runoff and erosion, protecting and planting native species, incorporating cover crops in our planting schedule, and by using minimal-till market gardening techniques that enhance soil health. Although we are not certified, we follow organic practices strictly. We never use synthetic chemical sprays or GMOs and minimize applications of even organic approved pesticides. We believe farming organically is the best way to grow healthy food and build resiliency against pests and extreme weather. We have deliberately chosen to be a small farm, having just one acre of ground in production, because we want to focus foremost on quality and sustainability.
